Baby Behavior Trainings

The Human Lactation Center is available to provide Baby Behavior and Toddler Behavior Trainings.

The UC Davis Human Lactation Center is proud to offer the Baby Behavior and Toddler Behavior Trainings, based on information from the FitWIC Baby Behavior Study. These trainings, originally available only to WIC clinics participating in the study, are now available to WIC agencies, hospitals, and other health providers, nationwide.

For WIC programs, the full-day (6 hours of instruction) training covers infant states, infant cues, sleep, crying, counseling techniques, and newborn-specific Baby Behavior as well as toddler behaviors related to feeding challenges.  We work with each program to customize the content to the needs of the clinic, agency, or state staff attending training. WIC clinics participating in the training have seen improved breastfeeding rates, reduced formula distribution, improved infant weight status, and improved parent-infant interactions!

For nurses, physicians, and hospital staff, we now have trainings focused specifically on the newborn period. These trainings cover an overview of the basic Baby Behavior messages with more detail about the changes occurring in the first few days of life. Hospital staff attending the trainings are given tips and tools to promote positive interactions between caregivers and babies from the first day on.

The training costs vary by location and attendance. For more information about having the Human Lactation Center train your staff, please contact us!
